Visual Diary: A Day with Miguel and Huawei / by Ida Anduyan

Miguel and I usually lay out our plans the night before whenever we plan to go out. For our last monthsary (last 24th), our date was already set when Miguel made an impromptu plan to go Tagaytay. This guy never fails to surprise me.

Before we get into the details, I have to mention that for this day, I decided to give my trusty camera a break. I brought with me my Huawei P9. I heard (and saw) a lot about this nifty little gadget, all good things, and I also know that for this model, Huawei partnered up with one of the most prestigious camera brands I know, Leica. I was excited to give it try.

The trip to Tagaytay didn’t take long than I expected it to be. I blame Metro Manila traffic for making me used to long journeys.

First stop, Balay Dako. I love this place! Though the first floor isn’t really my aesthetic, I super loved the second floor. It had that euro-industrial-contempory feel in it.

As for the food, the place serves Filipino food. It wasn’t a ten out of ten for me but it wasn’t bad either. Miguel and I probably ordered the wrong food combos, we got all pork! Haha, oink oink.

Sucks that most of the waiters were busy at the time. I wanted a nice picture with Miguel at the lighting was just perfect. We had to settle for a selfie instead. Oh well, what’s important is that the memory stays in my heart (cheeeeeesy).

Let’s get back real quick to my new gadget. I love how it captures all the details in this photo. All the little edges of the trees’ barks, the leaves, all perfectly preserved by this phone’s snapshots. Makes you question if you really need a bulky camera if you’re just into these everyday easy shots to document your memories.

Second stop, Café Voi La. What I like about this café is that it’s… different. You guys know me, I’d prefer clean, minimal, straight forward things. May it be in clothes, design, or whatever. I rarely go for the eccentric look (but get me wrong I’m open to trying out new things any time so long as it’s not too un-me).

But this place, it’s just that, very eccentric. Different colors, textures, prints, patterns, materials, all mashed up together and yet it wasn’t chaotic. My senses weren’t over-stimulated with everything around me. In fact I was relaxed while seated in their poofy couches poured with colorful pillows. It was very, very, charming.

The food was okay. It just was a bit too sweet for my taste but it’s important to know that I’m not really into sweets that much. Perhaps I should have tried their coffee instead of butter beer?

Look how pretty the place is. This is definitely not my type of scene but I appreciate the talent & creativity put into this place so much. I’d surely visit the place again soon and yes, this is captured using the Huawei P9. I’m really quite impressed.

We finished up dessert just before sunset. I overestimated time again and hoped we’d still be able to catch a movie when we get back to the Metro but duuh, traffic was terrible as usual.

Nonetheless, this day was perfect. I’m really a low maintenance girl when it comes to the “where to go” dilemma. As much as I’d like an adventure or two from time to time, I’m also perfectly happy with just a simple movie, dinner, or even hanging out at the house so long as it’s with the right company (also the fact that I’m still not allowed to go wherever I want to… yet) so I really appreciate Miguel for taking me places. He always makes an effort that we try something new together on the regular. He finds all these new restaurants with amazing food, spots where we can get dessert and shoot at the same time. All those little things.

So yas! Life is good so far, and so were the shots for this entry (right?? Hehehe). Everything was taken with the Huawei P9, in case you’re wondering.

Of course, I’d also like to hear from my beloved readers. How’s life lately? Been to any new restaurants and/or cafes worth sharing? Any comments about the shots in this entry? Let me know in the comments below.
